This guide provides a clear and concise roadmap for aspiring students to follow to secure a place at IIT Bombay, one of the most prestigious institutions in India.
Step 1: Register & Appear for JEE Main Exam:
The first step in gaining admission to IIT Bombay is to register for the JEE Main exam. Once registered, you need to appear for the exam as per the scheduled date.
Step 2: Qualify JEE Main & Appear for JEE Advanced:
After successfully clearing the JEE Main exam, the next milestone is qualifying for the JEE Advanced exam. Only those who perform well in JEE Main are eligible to sit for JEE Advanced.
Step 3: Register for JoSAA Counseling & Fill Choices:
Once you have cleared the JEE Advanced exam, the next step is to participate in the JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counseling process. During this phase, you will need to register and fill in your preferred choices for institutes and programs.
Step 4: Seat Allotment by JoSAA:
Based on your rank, preferences, and availability of seats, JoSAA will conduct the seat allotment process. This step determines which IIT and program you will be admitted to.
Step 5: Report at Allotted College & Pay the Fee:
Finally, after the seat allotment, you must report to the allotted IIT (e.g., IIT Bombay) and complete the admission formalities, including paying the required fees.

1. Registration & Job Posting:
The Placement Office invites organizations and assigns a point of contact. Recruiters register on the placement portal by making the required payment and post job or internship opportunities, making them visible to students.
2. Job Verification & Student Access:
The Placement Office verifies the details of the job postings to ensure accuracy. Once verified, the job listings are made accessible to students online, allowing them to explore and apply for these opportunities.
3. Student Applications & Shortlisting:
Interested students apply for the available positions. Companies then review the resumes and shortlist candidates, proceeding with tests and screenings in coordination with the Placement Office.
4. Interviews & Offers:
The Placement Office schedules final interviews based on company preferences. After interviews, organizations provide a list of students receiving offers, marking the transition to the offer stage.
5. Offer Finalization & Communication:
Organizations submit their final list of selected students to the Placement Office. The office coordinates the acceptance, and offer letters, along with job details, are delivered to the selected candidates.
Placement Highlights(2023-24):
- In the first round of IIT Bombay placements for 2023-24, 22 students received offers exceeding INR 1 crore per annum
- The Research and Development sector offered an average package of INR 36.90 LPA—an increase of nearly 14% from last year.
- 63 students accepted international offers, and 1,340 job offers were made to 1,188 students, including 7 PSUs and 297 PPOs.
- In 2023, the highest international and domestic packages were INR 3.67 crore and INR 1.68 crore per annum, respectively. The average package was INR 21.82 LPA, with an 82% placement rate. A total of 384 companies made 1,788 offers, and 1,104 internships were provided.

1. Campus:
The institute's campus spans 545 acres and is situated on the outskirts of Powai, Mumbai, approximately an hour away from the city center. The campus is well-connected, with convenient access from the Bus Terminal, Railway Station, and Airport. 2. Hostel:

The institute has a total of 17 hostels, which are managed and coordinated by the Hostel Coordinating Unit (HCU) of IIT Bombay. 4. Sports Facilities:
IIT Bombay promotes physical development through a diverse range of sports, including Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Lawn Tennis, Squash, Swimming, and Table Tennis. Each hostel features its own Volleyball and Basketball courts, as well as access to Cricket pitches and Football fields. Indoor games like Snooker and Table Tennis are also available.First-year students must register for extracurricular activities, including sports, in line with the National Sports Organization's requirements.
The annual sports festival, AAVHAN, showcases 13 sports and attracts over 3,000 participants from universities, clubs, and organizations nationwide, offering intense competition.
5. Clubs And Activities:
IIT Bombay boasts well-structured cultural clubs across various domains, including literature, dance, music, drama, photography, and fashion. The institute hosts numerous intra- and inter-college competitions. Each December, IIT Bombay holds Mood Indigo, India's largest cultural festival.
