Undergraduate Admissions (B. Tech, Dual Degree, Integrated M. Sc., etc.): Undergraduate Admissions (B. Tech, Dual Degree, Integrated M. Sc., etc.):
JEE Main: These individuals are first required to take JEE Main conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). This is a screening test and passing it will mean that one will have to move to the next level.
JEE Advanced: The JEE Advanced exam is been conducted by any one of the IITs on a rotational basis and only those candidates are allowed to appear for this exam who have secured good ranks in the JEE Main exam and who are been nominated by the permanent stitcher councils of various states and union territories of India. JEE Advanced score/ranks are the most important factor when it comes to getting admitted.
Registration and Counseling: To be eligible for admission to any of the IITs the candidates have to register for the JoSAA counseling. In this process, one can specify courses and institutes of his or her choice.
Seat Allocation: The allotment of the seats is prepared from the candidate’s rank in JEE Advanced, choices locked at the time of counseling, and also the availability of seats.

Postgraduate Admissions (M. Tech, MBA, M. Sc., etc.): Postgraduate Admissions (M. Tech, MBA, M. Sc., etc.):
GATE: Candidates who want to get admitted into the M. Tech programs are to sit and write the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). On this basis, based on GATE scores sometimes followed by an Interview / Written exam, admission is made.
CAT: For an MBA, there is a common admission test known as CAT that is required to be taken by the candidates. The candidates who are finally shortlisted for the job are asked to sit for a Group Discussion (GD) and a Personal Interview (PI).
JAM: For M. Sc. entitled for admission into various M. Sc. programs, they have to write the Joint Admission Test for M. Sc. (JAM). The course has joint admission and matriculation test for admission into the course and counseling after the test.
Other Exams: In certain cases, there might be other tests such as the CEED for design programs, or departmental exams.

Doctoral Admissions (Ph.D.):
Written Test and Interview: Candidates need to apply directly to IIT Kharagpur and might be required to appear for a written test followed by an interview. GATE/NET scores are often considered for eligibility.
